Keeper impresses in pre-season trial

St Johnstone are eyeing a move for former Aston Villa goalkeeper Peter Enckelman. Enckelman, who was released by Cardiff at the end of last season, featured in St Johnstone's 1-0 pre-season friendly win over Real Valladolid on Saturday. The Finnish international impressed during the victory at McDiamid Park and Saints boss Derek McInnes is now ready to offer the keeper a deal at the Perth outfit. "Peter had a bit more work than I would have wanted him to have," said McInnes. "Still, I thought he was excellent in dealing with what he had to do. "He is obviously going to be a bit rusty but, bearing that in mind, he can be well pleased with his performance. "We will have a better idea early in the week about what we can do in terms of agreeing some sort of deal." Enckelman would help provide cover and competition for Graeme Smith at McDiarmid Park and McInnes is thought to be keen to tie up a deal before the new SPL season kicks off this weekend.
