Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has confirmed the Edinburgh club will not resurrect their move for Kilmarnock's Craig Bryson.
It had been thought the Tynecastle club could step up their efforts for Bryson after missing out on Paul Hartley, who has joined Aberdeen.
However, Jefferies is adamant he will not be returning to his former club with an increased offer for highly-rated midfielder Bryson.
Kilmarnock have refused a £375,000 offer from Hearts for the 23-year-old midfielder but Jefferies will not reignite negotiations
"It's Kilmarnock's prerogative to turn down the offer," he told Edinburgh Evening News.
"We've made the offer and the only way it can be resurrected is if we get word back that they would like to do a deal.
"The two clubs are well apart. If it can be resurrected it will have to be done from the Kilmarnock end.
"If not, it won't stop us looking at other options."
