Midfielder impresses on trial

Aberdeen are poised to sign former England international Lee Hendrie on a free transfer. The 33-year-old midfielder has been training with the SPL outfit this week and played 55 minutes of Wednesday night's pre-season friendly with Dunfermline. Manager Mark McGhee has been suitably impressed by Hendrie, who is a free agent following his release from Derby at the end of last season. And Hendrie, whose list of former clubs also include Aston Villa, Stoke and Sheffield United, looks set to be offered a contract at Pittodrie. "It was a toss-up between not risking him and just signing him or having a look against Dunfermline and risk someone else coming in for him," McGhee told the Press and Journal. "We went for the latter but the fact is he is here and has enjoyed his few days up here and is happy with what he has seen. "There are a few things to sort out but we will make a decision before speaking to Lee and his representatives. "The ball is in our court at the moment. I would hope to have a decision on Thursday. "I was pleased with him. I did not want him to get injured and he was starting to get a bit heavy-legged so we took him off. "We could see his quality in the way he moves the ball. When we learn how to play with him I am sure he will improve our game."
