But Alexander expresses desire to stay

Nacho Novo has given his strongest indication yet that he will leave Rangers this summer. The 30-year-old frontman has reportedly resumed talks over a new contract with the Glasgow giants but it would appear unlikely that a new deal will be struck. The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough, as well as clubs in his homeland.

Goodbye

He told the Evening Times: "I think everyone knows how much Rangers and the fans mean to me. "It will break my heart if I have to say goodbye. "It will be an emotional day for everyone on Sunday as it might well be the last game for a few of us. At the moment, nothing has been agreed with Rangers. "I am 30 years old now. I have my family and my own future to think about - I'll need to wait and see what happens in the next few days, but I have to say that the thought of having to say goodbye to the Rangers fans kills me. "It would be the worst day of my life leaving this club after six years." In better news for the SPL champions, goalkeeper Neil Alexander has revealed he is hoping to sign a new deal once the club's own future has been resolved. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has already held provisional talks with manager Walter Smith and indicated he would like to remain at Ibrox beyond the end of his current deal. "I've got another year left on my contract and the manager spoke to me just before January and he's keen to extend my contract," he said. "We had a chat and he wants me to stay on. I told him that I'm happy to be here and would be delighted to sign a new deal. "We have to wait for things to happen in other areas for the contract to go through and then I'll sit down properly and discuss it and try to get it signed. I've said all along that I love it here and I'm very happy here.
Fantastic
"Obviously it's frustrating at times not playing but to be part of a squad winning titles, winning trophies, playing in the Champions League - it's fantastic to be a part of that." However, Alexander admits he could be lured away from the Scottish champions if McGregor remains at Rangers beyond the current campaign and he is made an attractive offer from elsewhere. "I'm really happy here and keen to stay but never say never," he said. "If I knew that Allan was going to stay and there was a guarantee of first-team football at a good club at a good level somewhere else, then it would be something I would have to consider." McGregor is seen as one of Rangers biggest assets and has been tipped for a possible summer departure, which could pave the way for Alexander to stake a claim for the gloves. He added: "If it happened, I would love the manager to give me a run in the team and a chance to be number one but I can't think like that because it might not happen. "If it does happen, then I wish Allan all the best because he is a fantastic goalkeeper and he has been absolutely magnificent for Rangers. "But Rangers will want to keep their best players if possible and Allan is one of the best players so I'm sure the manager would want to keep hold of him."
