Skysports.com understands Rangers are one of a host of teams who are lining up to offer Northern Ireland goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey a deal when his current contract with Partick Thistle expires this summer.
Rangers boss Walter Smith sees Tuffey as the ideal replacement for Alan McGregor, should he be sold in the summer to aid in Rangers' current financial plight.
Both Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Terry Butcher and Dundee United boss Peter Houston are big admirers of Tuffey and have been full of praise for the shot-stopper when their respective teams have come up against Partick Thistle recently.
Butcher descirbed Tuffey's performance against Inverness last weekend as 'incredible' and Houston claimed he was 'maginificent' when Dundee United played Partick in the Scottish Cup recently.
Hibernian and Hearts are also thought to be vying for Tuffey's signature this summer.
Competition
But they face stiff competition from clubs in England, with Preston North End, Doncaster Rovers, Leeds United and MK Dons all known to have been monitoring Tuffey's progress throughout the season.
In light of the ongoing speculation regarding his future, the Ulster shot-stopper told
skysports.com: "I'm out of contract at the end of the season and we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
"There's nothing been agreed with Partick and nothing with anyone else as of yet.
"That's the truth and I've made no secret about the fact I want to play at the highest level possible."
