Saints defender hoping to head to Hampden

Chris Innes is confident he will win his fitness battle and be ready for Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final. The St Mirren defender has been struggling with a groin injury and feared missing out on a glamour tie with reigning SPL champions Rangers. The 33-year-old sustained the knock during the Saints' league date with Walter Smith's side at Ibrox earlier this month. He remains a slight doubt heading into the weekend showdown at Hampden Park, but is 'optimistic' regarding his chances of earning a place in Gus MacPherson's squad. "The injury is getting better every day and I am optimistic I will be fit for the final," he said in the Daily Record. "I want to play but ultimately if I'm not 100 per cent fit then I will be doing a disservice to myself, the manager and my team-mates if I said I was fine."
