Mark McGhee insists Sone Aluko still has a future with Aberdeen despite his unauthorised trip to join Nigeria's Under 20 squad.
The skilful winger flew to Spain to join his national team for a training camp without the Dons' permission before returning ahead of last weekend's match.
Aluko played for 82 minutes of Saturday's late 1-0 win over St Mirren and McGhee has confirmed his unauthorised jaunt has not hindered his future at Pittodrie.
McGhee admits it will be a blow to be without his services throughout the Under 20 World Cup, although he is backing Davide Grassi to fill in during his absence.
"It is not even an issue," he said. "He worked hard in what was a difficult week for him.
"The real sickener is that we will be missing him for a few weeks because we know he is a match winner.
"One of the reasons why we played Davide Grassi on the left of midfield was to see if he could do a job for us there and I think we saw enough to say he can.
"Sone doesn't have to be as big a loss as he might have seemed, but he certainly will be missed."
