Rangers duo Beasley and Papac not long-term casualties

Rangers had some much needed good news on the injury front with the confirmation that DaMarcus Beasley and Sasa Papac will not be long-term casualties. American winger Beasley was stretchered off in the 2-1 win over St Mirren on Wednesday and many feared that the 26-year-old may have broken his ribs. Papac was also withdrawn with an ankle problem at St Mirren Park and although both are not expected to be sidelined for long they will miss the weekend's clash with Motherwell. The injuries mean that the Gers are likely to be without nine first-teamers for the visit of Mark McGhee's men. Walter Smith is already without Lee McCulloch (calf), Kirk Broadfoot (foot), Kenny Miller (hamstring) and Kyle Lafferty (knee) while Kevin Thomson remains a long-term casualty. Meanwhile Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor are still suspended after their behaviour on international duty.

Positive

"There's no break there for DaMarcus and that's good news, although we're not quite sure at this stage how long he'll be out for," Smith told the club's official website. "It was certainly a painful blow, so he'll definitely miss the game at the weekend. "Sasa is another who'll be missing. He needed stitches on a cut and there's a bit of swelling there just now. "Again, we'll wait to see how long the problem takes to clear but I'd be hopeful he will be able to return next week at Easter Road."
