Accies boss says ex-Iron defender will sign

Hamilton manager Billy Reid is hoping to have defender Izzy Iriekpen available for their SPL clash against Kilmarnock. Former Scunthorpe captain Iriekpen is currently a free agent after being released from his contract with the League One club. Reid has confirmed the club have agreed terms with the 26-year-old and that he hopes the deal will be finalised on Friday. Iriekpen had scored four goals for Scunthorpe this season and Reid is hoping to utilise his goalscoring ability, particularly from set-pieces.

Terms agreed

"We've agreed terms with Izzy," confirmed Reid. "He's in Nigeria at the moment; his mother's not well. "We're hoping he will come tomorrow and sign for us and be in the squad for Sunday. "He was the captain of Scunthorpe, and they wanted him to sign another contract. But I think he refused; he wanted to play at a higher level. "They decided it would be better for him to go, and we got word of that. He's a player with decent pedigree, and we're delighted to get his services. "He's played 19 times for Scunthorpe this season and scored four goals from set-pieces, so he's a threat at the other end of the park."
