Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen is hopeful that much sought-after midfielder Dean Shiels will stay at Easter Road.
His comments come as the 23-year-old Northern Ireland international is attracting interest ahead of the January transfer window.
He was watched by Rangers chief scout Ewan Chester in the 4-2 defeat by Kilmarnock on Saturday, while several English sides are also thought to be interested.
But Paatelainen believes the player will pen a new deal to stay at the club.
He told the Daily Record: "I don't know where it comes from. Maybe it is from supporters' websites or his agent.
"But I am hopeful he will sign a new deal here. He has indicated he will stay. He likes the club and loves Edinburgh and is settled. He plays regularly so what more can you ask?"
As for the upcoming transfer window, Paatelainen is looking to strengthen in several areas.
He said: "I want to bring in an experienced keeper. We have two good youngsters so we don't need another one.
"I want to strengthen the competition for that position.
"There are other positions we need to strengthen, midfield for example, but it will depend on player availability."
Meanwhile, Hibs defender Rob Jones may not be fit for Saturday's derby clash with Hearts at Tynecastle but new signing Jonatan Johansson could make his debut.
