Defender set to undergo minor surgery
Rangers boss Walter Smith has admitted Steven Whittaker may need to undergo a minor knee operation.
Whittaker has only featured in Gers' win over Falkirk at the start of the season and they had hoped a period of rest would cure the problem.
However, with the former Hibernian star failing to respond to treatment, Smith believes the only way forward is for him to go under the knife.
"Whittaker has a knee injury and it may be that he needs an operation, we are not quite certain," Smith told the club's official website.
"It would be a minor one, but obviously it rules him out for the next few matches."
Meanwhile, Smith doubts whether Northern Ireland international striker Kyle Lafferty will be available to face Patrick Thistle on Wednesday.
"He might be okay for the Thistle games, but he is rated doubtful," concluded Smith.
