Cruciate ligament blow for defender

Motherwell defender Brian McLean could miss the whole of next season after suffering a serious knee injury. McLean sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury during Motherwell's pre-season clash with Romanian outfit CFR Cluj earlier this week. The 23-year-old was injured in a challenge with CFR Cluj defender Diego Ruiz and the tackle infuriated Well boss Mark McGhee. Motherwell have confirmed the full extent of McLean's injury with the player facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. "The defender has partially ruptured his cruciate ligament and torn his medial ligament," read a statement on the club's official website. "He also has a small fracture on the outside of his knee."
