Kilmarnock are set to tie up a deal to sign former Gretna midfielder Gavin Skelton.

Former Gretna star to sign on

Kilmarnock are set to sign former Gretna midfielder Gavin Skelton and have agreed terms on a new one-year deal with striker David Fernandez. Rugby Park boss Jim Jefferies has been keeping tabs on Skelton, who left Gretna almost three weeks ago, and revealed he beat off competition from a number of other clubs to sign the 27-year-old. "I have had a couple of chats with Gavin and he has decided to come to us," said Jefferies. "He had two or three clubs chasing him so I told him to go speak with them to make sure he wanted to come here. "He came back to tell me he had made a decision to join us so we will tie that up on Friday."

Fernandez

Spanish striker Fernandez has been plagued by injury in recent times and has been linked with a move away from Ayrshire, but he has now agreed terms on a one-year contract extension. "We felt after his injury problems he was looking more like himself towards the end of the season," added Jefferies. "We feel if he can find that wee bit of consistency he will help get us up there challenging so he has agreed to sign a new deal."
