Jefferies hoping midfielder shines next season

Kilmarnock midfielder David Fernandez has agreed a new one-year contract with the club. The 32-year-old did not play enough games last season to automatically trigger an extension, but he has accepted an offer to stay at Rugby Park. Fernandez joined Kilmarnock in 2006 from Dundee United and manager Jim Jefferies is optimistic the Spaniard will perform to his best next season. "Everything with David has been agreed and he will sign a new contract," said Jefferies in the Daily Record.

Very exciting

"He has agreed a one-year deal with the option of another year. "David was starting to show great form in the last few games of the season and I'm sure that will spur him on, so we're delighted to have got him tied up. "It has taken David a while to get over his injuries, but when he is fully fit he's a very exciting player and with a good pre-season behind him he can start afresh." Jefferies is also continuing talks to keep Mehdi Taouil at the club and is hopeful the Moroccan midfielder will stay at Kilmarnock.
