Keeper unable to shake off ankle knock

Grzegorz Szamotulski has left Preston North End after having his contract terminated by mutual consent. The Polish goalkeeper signed for the Lilywhites as cover for first choice Andy Lonergan in February but suffered an ankle injury in his first game for the reserves. He has since been unable to shake off the knock and it was decided that the best option for both parties was for him to leave Deepdale and concentrate his search on finding a new club ahead of the 2008/09 campaign.

Complicated

"It was decided that we wouldn't be offering Grzegorz a contract at the end of the season and rather than keeping him here we've agreed to cancel the contract," North End boss Alan Irvine told the club's official website. "It was unfortunate that he picked up an injury early on. It was a bit more complicated than we first thought and therefore it has made it impossible for us to assess him. "We feel it would be better if we keep our options open over the summer."
