Ian Murray has signed a contract extension to keep him at Hibernian until the summer of 2010.

The midfielder returned for a second spell at Easter Road when he left Norwich in January and agreed a short-term deal spanning until the end of the season.

Manager Mixu Paatelainen last week offered Murray the chance to commit to the club for a further two years and he has now completed the paperwork.

"It's great to have agreed this new contract and I am really happy to be staying on at Hibernian," said the former Rangers man.

Paatelainen, who played in the same Hibs side as Murray for three years from 1998 to 2001, has also expressed his happiness with the deal.

He said: "I am delighted that the new contract has been agreed with Ian.

"He's a great player and has performed really well since coming back to the club.

"Ian has a real determination to succeed and this allied to his great versatility will, I'm sure, see him play a key role for us."
