Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood fears Jamie Smith and Derek Young could miss the rest of the season through injury.

Smith picked up a new injury during his comeback game against Celtic in the Scottish Cup on Sunday and was forced to limp off in the first-half.

Young has been missing for the last month with a knee problem and scans have shown he faces an even longer spell on the sidelines.

Calderwood revealed Smith is set to see a specialist over his latest injury and he is fearing the worst regarding the key duo.

"We're hoping they won't be out for the rest of the season but anything we get from them will be a bonus," Calderwood told the Daily Record.

"Jamie will see a specialist to get to the root of the problem. He has had injury problems since coming here but it doesn't look like another hamstring this time.

"Pain is coming from his back and shooting down his leg.

"It is a very depressing situation for the player as he had worked so hard in training to regain fitness.

"Derek has badly damaged knee ligaments and will be out for at least five or six weeks so it's bad news all round."
