Midfielder not recovered from hamstring injury

Jamie Smith will not be fit to return for Aberdeen's Uefa Cup second leg against Bayern Munich. The midfielder has missed the Dons' last five matches, including the 2-2 draw with Bayern in the first leg, due to a hamstring injury. Aberdeen were hopeful that Smith, who scored twice against FC Copenhagen in the group phase, would be back for Thursday's return meeting with Bayern. But Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood has confirmed that Smith has not recovered in time to be included in his plans for the game at the Allianz Arena.

Talisman

"Jamie Smith was very close to making it, but he was still feeling the injury a bit and I can't take the chance," Calderwood told the club's official website. "Jamie has been a bit of a talisman for us this season and he is a very important player, but he was still feeling it and if he played and injured it he could be over and out for the season. "You just can't take a chance with those type of things. "Hopefully he might be back for the Kilmarnock or Motherwell games." Smith is joined on the sidelines for the match by Derek Young, Jackie McNamara, Dan Smith and Richie Byrne.
