Motherwell midfielder Jim Paterson feels he is not 'a million miles away' from signing a new contract.
Paterson's current deal expires at the end of the season and the 28-year-old is keen to stay at Fir Park.
He confirmed talks regarding an extension have taken place and he is hoping to agree terms with Mark McGhee's side.
"I don't think we're a million miles away," said Paterson in the Daily Record. "We've had initial discussions and hopefully things can get sorted.
"My contract is up at the end of the season, but I would like to stay.
"The team are doing well, there's a good buzz about the dressing room and we're playing good football, sitting third in the table.
"The gaffer has been really good for me. He wants to win things, so I don't see any reason why I would want to leave."
