Chester have made an ambitious move to sign West Brom striker John Hartson.

League Two hopefuls chase former Wales star

Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan has revealed they have made a move to sign out-of-favour West Brom striker John Hartson. The 32-year-old is well down the pecking order at The Hawthorns and recently spent time out on loan at Norwich. West Brom are believed to be willing to let Hartson leave and the news has alerted League Two hopefuls Chester. Vaughan has admitted he has made an approach to West Brom over a loan switch with the option of a permanent deal. Vaughan told Chester's official website: "We have approached West Brom, with a view to taking the player on a loan arrangement, and then making the move permanent in the January transfer window. "So far we have not had a response."
