Gretna keeper earns Under 21 place

Gretna goalkeeper Greg Fleming has revealed his delight at landing his first international call-up. The 21-year-old has been drafted into the Scotland Under 21 squad ahead of their friendly with Holland on Tuesday.

Delight

"I'm delighted to get the call-up as it would be an honour to represent my country," he said. "It's great to be involved in the international set-up and it's nice to get recognition for my performances. I'm looking forward to joining the rest of the squad now and hopefully I will get a chance to play on Tuesday." Fleming has cause for a double celebration, after he also agreed a new two-year contract with the club. "I'm pleased with how things are going at the moment and I'm very happy at the club. We could obviously be in a better position but the signs have been good and I'm sure we're not far away from getting the results we deserve," he said.

Trial

Meanwhile, Gretna have taken Nigerian Ernest Simon on trial. The former Under 20 international is training with the club over the next week. "We'll see what kind of impression he makes in the bounce game," boss Davie Irons said. "We're always on the look out for promising players, and you never know we might unearth another gem like Fabian. "The football world is getting much smaller when you have agents offering players to clubs. We may have one or two players coming over next week."
