Standings no surprise to Gulls

Sitting in sixth place in League Two with a quarter of the season remaining has not come as a surprise to Torquay's players.

According to midfielder Eunan O'Kane, the Gulls have rubbished pre-season predictions of mid-table mediocrity, and overcame a worrying slump in form in September and October, to climb the table and are well placed to secure a play-off spot come the end of the term. And while O'Kane conceded a run of seven straight wins propelled the Devon club up the league ladder a little earlier than anticipated, he claimed the Torquay squad always anticipated challenging for promotion. "We're not too surprised, but I don't think too many players would have said before the season started that we would find ourselves in this position at this stage," he said. "It's certainly not a shock to us, but we've put ourselves in a really good position. There's five or six teams all on roughly the same amount of points and it is a realistic possibility. "If we keep playing well there's no reason why we won't do it. We think we have it in us to stay up there."
