Sky Sports understands Ipswich have had a bid accepted for highly-rated Macclesfield Town defender Elliott Hewitt.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents outside the Premier League after bursting onto the scene at Macclesfield.
Macclesfield are resigned to losing their prized asset this summer after suffering relegation from League Two and have been bracing themselves for bids.
A host of top clubs have been linked with moves for Hewitt after watching him in action this season, but Ipswich have made the first move to try and steal a march on their rivals.
Ipswich are thought to have tabled an offer for the full-back and Macclesfield have given Hewitt permission to hold talks with the Portman Road outfit.
Town boss Paul Jewell is keen to tie up a deal for Hewitt as quickly as possible to fend off any possible late moves by other clubs.
