Macclesfield defender Elliott Hewitt will miss the rest of the season after undergoing hip surgery.

The highly-rated Wales Under-21 international has not featured for the League Two strugglers since the goalless draw with Bristol Rovers at the beginning of this month and is now facing the prospect of four months on the sidelines. The Silkmen have been beset by injuries since Christmas and are currently in the relegation zone. "Unfortunately we're also losing Elliott Hewitt for the rest of the campaign with his hip problem," Macclesfield physiotherapist Nick Reid told his club's official website. "He's going to have an operation on it on Thursday and will be out for four months. Hopefully he will be able to join in with pre-season training." It is feasible that Hewitt has played his last game for Macc. Earlier this season the 17-year-old was rumoured to have attracted a number of high-profile admirers including Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton.
