Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson believes his players passed a test of character against Chelmsford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Silkmen were a goal down after 45 minutes at Blue Square Bet South outfit Chelmsford City, their place in the third-round draw hanging by a threat. However Tony Diagne's acrobatic leveller means the side will face off once more at the Moss Rose next week, with the prize of a home game against Premier League Bolton awaiting the winner "It was a difficult, difficult place to go," said Simpson. "They've just gone 20 games unbeaten so have a lot of confidence. "It was fortuitous when they went 1-0 up. I thought their lad was offside, and pulled (Shaun) Brisley back. "I spoke to the lads at half-time and said they had to battle and I think they did that. They showed more hunger and a though we might have won it after getting level."
