Simpson on cloud nine after rout

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson was beaming after the Silkmen dismantled high-flying AFC Wimbledon 4-0 at Moss Rose.

The Silkmen took the lead in the second minute when Shaun Brisley volleyed home from four yards. French youngster Tony Diagne made it two on 24 minutes with a firm header from an Emile Sinclair cross. Sinclair bagged his fourth of the season shortly after the break when he picked out the far corner from 15 yards, while substitute Arnaud Mendy put the final nail in the coffin with a clinical finish at the death. Simpson said: "We played superbly but we've done the same from pre-season all the way through, the difference was that we scored more than once. "We played a Premiership (sic) team off the park for 45 minutes in midweek and it's just a matter of keeping the lads' confidence high and the momentum going. "I couldn't pick out any single player, I was delighted with everyone, they got the ball down, kept it, moved and passed it and they were simply superb. I couldn't be any more pleased or proud."
