Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson says the departure of new signing Waide Fairhurst resulted in his side losing to Dagenham.

The striker was looking lively on his debut until he had to be substituted following a challenge by Abu Ogogo towards the end of the first half and left the ground on crutches to see his side defeated 1-0 by Dagenham. "I thought the game turned on a very cynical tackle on Waide Fairhurst," said Simpson. "We were playing well at the time and had opened them up on a few occasions. It was a bad tackle on him, the kid is on crutches, hopefully it's not too bad, but it was a turning point in the game. Unfortunately we don't get any points for hard luck." Medy Elito ghrabbed the only goal of the game while the Daggers had goalkeeper Chris Lewington sent off for handling outside his area. "It's disappointing because we have done well in pre-season," added Simpson. "After 45 minutes we thought we had the edge and we got caught with a sucker punch at the back."
