Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson is delighted midfielder Hamza Bencherif is starting to recapture his best form.

Bencherif, 22, missed the second half of last season with a broken ankle but he has fought his way back to full fitness and has been in impressive form this campaign, scoring his third goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat at Lincoln on Saturday. Simpson believes the Algerian is a good player to have in the fourth tier of English football but expects him to go on and ply his trade at a higher level. He told the Manchester Evening News: "He's got a knack of scoring a goal and at League Two level he can play in the midfield and be an effective player. "The higher up he goes he'll probably end up going to centre back, and he can go higher. I don't think he's back to how he was last year but he's certainly getting closer."
