Macclesfield defender Danny Swailes has committed himself to Moss Rose after signing a new contract that binds him to the club until 2009.

Earlier in the season and Macclesfield had looked destined to fall into the Conference but following the appointment of Paul Ince they have improved dramatically and look more than capable of staving off the threat of the drop.

Swailes, who joined Macclesfield two years ago from Bury, is confident that if they do indeed stay up this term, then next season they will be more than capable of pushing on.

"Obviously this season is all about staying up now but hopefully, if we do that, we can push on next season," said Swailes.

"The potential has obviously always been there but we're working hard together.

"I'm quietly confident we can stay up. We've drawn one and lost two of the last three and we just need to get it going again."
