Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott says he still wants to re-sign loan star Adam Clayton from Manchester City
Clayton impressed the United boss during a loan spell at Brunton Park last season but has since returned to his parent club ahead of the new campaign.
Abbott has made clear his desire to capture the services of the promising youngster once again, even though the player has expressed a desire to break into the first team fold at Eastlands.
But the Cumbrians boss says he will continue to pursue his chase of the 21-year-old should first team football at the Premier League outfit evade him.
"At the minute Adam is away in Mexico but I have spoken to him and his agent all summer," Abbott told the
News & Star.

"He has spoken in the press about fighting for his Man City place and getting into their team.
"If that changes we would be daft not to make him an offer. We will decide what to do based on what happens with him at Man City in pre-season."
Abbott is also hopeful of keeping Tom Aldred on his books in the North West.
Skysports.com reported how the right-back had turned down a new deal with Carlisle after courting interest from teams higher up the Football League pyramid.
No move has since materialised for the 19-year-old, though, meaning he may put pen-to-paper on a new deal at his current employers.
Concerned
Aldred is believed to be considering his options, although any departure would see the League One club receive a compensation payment.
And Abbott confirmed an offer still remained on the table for the full-back. He said: "The last time I spoke to Tom he definitely wanted to sign.
"I was very concerned the next day when we had an email saying he didn't want to sign. He has had other thoughts thrown at him and now we have to see what he decides.
"The door is always open here. If he decides the grass is greener somewhere else, he might chase that. We put an offer on the table and he turned that down.
"I don't know what offer he wants because there has been no contact since our last conversation."
