Flitcroft pleased with Bury

Manager David Flitcroft felt it was a good night's work as Bury won 3-1 at home to Morecambe to reach the third round of the JPT.

The in-form Shakers were in charge after Danny Nardiello converted a 14th-minute penalty before doubling their lead on 39 minutes. Ex-Bury loanee Shaun Beeley pulled one back after 74 minutes and Morecambe almost equalised before Bury substitute Ryan Lowe struck in stoppage time. "We're pleased to get through to the next round," said Flitcroft. "The important thing was making sure all the lads got adequate game time but we were also competitive. "Some of the performances were superb. Chris Hussey came in at the back, Chris Sedgwick ran the show first half, Andrew Tutte put a good shift in and Danny Nardiello stayed in the goals. "The first half was a real show of strength, style and spirit. We pressed the ball unbelievably well and with a bit more clinical finishing and better decision making then it could have been five or six. "Morecambe came out second half and had a right go at us and their goal gave them a verve, but we saw the job out. "Jim Bentley's done fantastic at Morecambe. They came here with a real spirit and a fight, which we had to match and see off, so it was a good night's work." Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said: "We were struggling to get that pass from the back into the middle third in the first half and unfortunately we got a penalty against us so it was an uphill battle straight away. "But we identified one or two things at half-time and we went out second half and had a right good go at them. "We got the goal, hit the post and had a shout for a penalty. We were right at them but unfortunately we couldn't get that second goal. "We left ourselves wide open at the back and it was a mistake on Baz's (Barry Roche) part but if it was 1-1 he would have stuck it out of the ground. He was just trying to keep the ball in play so it's not a mistake we're going to cane him over. "But credit where credit's due, Bury are top of the table for a reason. But we showed some good stuff ourselves and I'm pleased overall with the performance."
