Tranmere midfielder Joe Thompson has been cleared to resume his playing career following his battle against cancer.

Thompson, 25, had been undergoing chemotherapy since being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphona in October, but tweeted on Monday that he was in complete remission. He posted: "COMPLETE REMISSION. Two simple words. Just been given the all clear off My Professor! Can't wait to get back out on the Football pitch." The Grow4Joe charity, set up by Tranmere team-mate Max Power soon after Thompson's diagnosis, is understood to have raised over £15,500 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
