Shirtliff can't defend Bury

Bury caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff blasted his side's defending after the 2-1 defeat by Preston.

North End prevailed thanks to a goal in each half from Akpo Sodje and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, before Joe Skarz netted a late consolation. Shirtliff said: "You just can't concede two set plays like that and expect to take anything from the game. "We've just not been good enough, and I include one or two more senior players in that. We've conceded poor goals and schoolboy defending has cost us dearly. "If I'm still at this club by next weekend there will certainly be changes. Too many players haven't been up to the task and the fans will need to see a reaction. "They are all tough games in this division, but I've just been so disappointed with the way we've defended."
