Sky Blues are unsure if they can retain their defensive duo

Coventry striker Clive Platt has yet to inform the club if he will accept their new one-year contract extension offer. Sky Blues manager Andy Thorn wants to retain the experience of the veteran forward, so that he can spearhead their promotion challenge following their relegation to League One. Platt is not renowned for his goalscoring prowess but Thorn believes his physical presence, alongside Cody McDonald, could prove to be a winning formula.

"Platty has shown his ability to be able to contribute to the side as he has done since he's been here," Thorn told the Coventry Telegraph. Meanwhile, City are also trying to tie down out-of-contract defender Martin Cranie to fresh terms. His displays last year alongside Richard Keogh are sure to have caught the attention of Championship sides. Keogh has just a year left remaining on his present deal and has already been the subject of a bid from Bristol City but Thorn is hopeful he will be able to convince both players to stay. "Martin is a good lad, a great player and I'd love to keep him," he added. "Rich is a first-class professional and exactly the kind of player we want to keep at this club so we look forward to sitting down with him and having a discussion. "He has a year left on his current deal but we want to see if we can convince him to extend his stay here because we think a player of his calibre will be a massive asset to us next season."
