Poole targets first-team run

James Poole hopes Hartlepool can progress in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy so he gets more competitive chances to play.

The 21-year-old striker has only started once since joining from Manchester City, but he scored twice as Pools beat Rochdale 3-1 on Saturday and could be in contention for a starting berth in Tuesday night's cup visit to Glanford Park. "I want to win [against Scunthorpe] purely because it means we've got more matches," Poole told the Hartlepool Mail. "As a young player, all I want to do is play football so a run in a cup competition would be brilliant. "I've come from Manchester City where all I was really doing was training and then playing a reserve game every couple of weeks. "I signed for Hartlepool to feel like a proper footballer and I do now."
