Shakers on steep learning curve

Bury manager Richie Barker conceded his players did not match Carlisle's fighting spirit after their 2-0 loss at Gigg Lane.

Goals from James Berrett and Liam Noble saw the Cumbrians claim a deserved three points and condemn the Shakers to their first defeat of the season. Barker said: "There are very few positives to take from it. I'm disappointed with the result, but I'm more disappointed with the performance. "They kept the ball better than us and we didn't get to grips with their system. If I'm honest they just got around the pitch and worked harder than we did. "I can accept that we will get beaten by better teams, but they went to extra time and played for two hours four days ago. Then they've travelled hundreds of miles for an away game and we just didn't match them. "We're still learning as staff and players, but we need to learn pretty quickly if we're going to be able to get through games like that."
