Striker keen not to be regularly likened to brother

Macclesfield Town striker John Rooney is eager to step out of the shadow of his brother Wayne and become an established footballer in his own right. The 18-year-old scored a stunning volley in Friday's win at Cheltenham, providing further evidence of the improvement he has made this season. Although his brother is known throughout the game for his exploits with Manchester United and England, John is keen to make his own mark rather than ride on his back. "I want to carve out my own career," he told Macclesfield's official website. "I want to have people knowing me for my own achievements and what I have done in football. "If I can keep scoring goals like the one on Friday, perhaps people will be calling him (Wayne) 'John's brother' before too long."
