The former Manchester United ace sustained a hand injury during last week's defeat to Cheltenham.
Tests have shown that the shot-stopper has broken a bone in his wrist, which initially gave fears that Pilkington would be out for up to eight weeks.
The 28-year-old did miss Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Northampton but is now only expected to be missing for about a month.
Pilkington's injury lead to The Stags bringing in Dutch keeper Arjan van Heusden as cover for the former Port Vale man.
