Manager Mark Robson admits Barnet need a win, and fast, after their bad start to the season continued with defeat to Exeter in League Two.
Goals in each half from Jamie Cureton did the damage for the Grecians who, despite a late Barnet fightback and a strike from Jake Hyde, took all three points with a 2-1 triumph at Underhill on Tuesday.
The loss leaves the Bees rock-bottom of the League Two table with just two points from their opening 10 games, and Robson accepts his side are desperate for three points at Southend this weekend.
"They are all tough games, there are no easy games in this division so Southend will be a tough game," he said.
"I was disappointed, I just felt we didn't do enough as a group. We were a bit naive both in terms of some of the younger players and the older players.
"Overall it needs to be better, especially after a couple of decent performances. For all our possession we never cut them open and we need to roll our sleeves up and go into a battle with Southend - we need to win a game. I hope it will be on Saturday because we need to get that win."
