Hibs suffer Stack blow

Hibernian have been dealt a major blow as keeper Graham Stack could be out for the rest of the season.

Out-of-contract keeper may have played his last game for the club

Hibs have been dealt a major blow after hearing goalkeeper Graham Stack could be out for the rest of the season. The 29-year-old injured a shoulder during last Tuesday's 2-1 league win at Hamilton and was forced off in the 42nd minute. The former Arsenal and Reading keeper has now been told he will need surgery to fix the problem. Mark Brown was between the sticks for Saturday's 1-1 draw at St Johnstone and the 30-year-old is expected to remain in goal ahead of Graeme Smith. The news leaves Stack's future uncertain as the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is out of contract in the summer.

Rankin leaving

One player whose future is certain to be away from Easter Road is John Rankin after manager Colin Calderwood told the 27-year-old midfielder his services are no longer required. Rankin's agent, Tam Callaghan, said: "John has been told that he won't be getting his contract renewed with Hibernian. "His current deal is up at the end of the season and he will continue to give his all for the club and be ready to play if he is called upon between now and the summer." Rankin has made 14 league starts this season but featured only once in the last six weeks.
