Mariners land Futcher jnr

Boston United defender Ben Futcher has joined Grimsby Town on a three-year deal.

Boston United defender Ben Futcher has joined Grimsby Town on a three-year deal.

The towering centre half has not enjoyed the happiest of times at York Street after joining them from local rivals Lincoln City, but he has now been offered the chance to resurrect his career with The Mariners.

Grimsby boss Russell Slade will be delighted to have completed the signing after injuries had decimated his defensive corps in recent weeks.

The 6' 7" stopper is now following in the footsteps of his father Paul, who earned cult status during his time with The Mariners during the early 1990's.

"I heard about the interest from Grimsby and straight away I was on the phone to Russell Slade," he told Grimsby's official site.

"I've spoken to my dad and he says what a good club it is. As I said, as soon as I heard about the interest my mind was made up."

Futcher can now look forward to lining up alongside 6' 6" defensive partner Rob Jones to form what will undoubtedly be one of the most intimidating defensive presences in the Football League.
