Notts County have placed Paul Hart and Mick Halsall in temporary charge of the first team while the club looks for a permanent successor to Shaun Derry.

Hart is currently acting academy manager at the club while Halsall is head of academy coaching, however, with a crucial Sky Bet League 1 game against Scunthorpe United this weekend and the need to maintain the day-to-day running of the first team squad, they have been asked to take on the role of caretaker management team in the interim period.

It was announced on Monday that manager Derry and his assistant Greg Abbott had parted company with Notts, with the process already underway to find their successor at Meadow Lane.

The duo have a wealth of managerial and coaching experience, with Hart, a former Notts County player, having managed at the likes of Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Crystal Palace and Halsall being one of the most respected youth coaches in the game.

The club said they felt that their experience would be key to helping guide the first team squad through this important interim period until a new permanent manager can be found.

Notts said they will be making no further comment on the managerial situation at Meadow Lane until the recruitment process has been completed and the right manager selected.
