Robinson revels in MK Dons show

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson believes a newfound ruthless edge means the sky's the limit after a 4-1 victory over Notts County.

After being consistently denied by County goalkeeper Roy Carroll in the first half, the Dons finally took a well-deserved lead just after the hour mark through Carl Baker before Lewis Baker's lob made it 2-0. Elliott Whitehouse poked home to give the visitors a route back into the game with 10 minutes left but Will Grigg netted his 14th and 15th goals of the season from close-range as the hosts recorded a second straight win. And with his troops now just four points off second-placed Preston, Robinson is confident they can do something special this season. "I think the players and the fans were magnificent," said Robinson. "The players' reaction with the fans at the end just shows what it means to them. "I'm over the moon with the way we played - I'm happy about the performance and not just the result. I look at the performance and the style of the win. "When it all comes together it is worthwhile watching and it takes your breath away at times. "The first 25 minutes were magnificent and I think we've become more ruthless in our play - I'm really pleased and I'm excited about what this group can do. "We have to keep doing the right things and I said to them in the dressing room that at 2-0 we got a bit too flash in our play. "But we've got to keep on doing what we do best, I'm just so proud of them." The defeat means Notts County lie 20th in the League One table, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference. And Magpies manager Shaun Derry admits that performances, especially from a defensive perspective, will have to improve if they are to escape from danger. "The game plan went to script in the first half and we looked as if we were going to come out in the second half and come out of the game with something," explained Derry. "But again it's individual mistakes that have costs us dearly. I can't stand here again and keep on making excuses because there comes a point where we have to be judged. "I have to judge them honestly - and, honestly, that was not good enough. "I think as a team performance there were some positives against a very good team - we had five very good chances. "I don't think it will take much for people to realise where the mistakes came from because we were just wide open at the back. "We needed to manage the game better when we got it back to 2-1 and we just didn't do that."
