DIsallowed goal angers Dickov

Paul Dickov felt Doncaster were denied victory in the JPT Northern Area quarter-final against Notts County by referee David Webb.

The Magpies progressed into the regional last four, where they will meet Preston next Tuesday, thanks to Liam Noble's 20-yard drive in the 74th minute. That goal came against the run of play and just minutes after Rovers controversially had a goal disallowed. Kyle Bennett's fine solo effort was ruled out after Webb consulted with his linesman, who deemed Rovers striker Curtis Main to be both interfering and in an offside position. Dickov is angry that his side were denied the lead and insists Bennett's effort should have stood. "I am a little bit angry because it's a game we should have won," he said. "We've had a goal chalked off for what, I don't know. "I've heard conflicting reports and I haven't even been to see the referee. If the goal is given, which it should have been, then we go on and win the game. "I don't want to get myself into trouble but there have been four different stories. "The way I see it, Kyle's shot has gone in. The referee was in a fantastic position, why he has to take advice from the linesman, who is 40 yards away, I'll never know. "Nobody has touched it, none of their players or bench have appealed, everyone is celebrating. "It's a big decision and it has cost us massively. "We should be sat here talking about the possibility of playing Preston next week because I felt in the second half we were by far the better team and the team that was going to score." Magpies boss Shaun Derry knows his side might have got away with one but was proud of their effort. "I am really proud, of course I am. It's a game we wanted to win, we wanted to come here and compete," Derry said. "It's a competition we are taking seriously this season and that was show by the team I picked. "I'm really proud of them. I thought the shape and discipline and the understanding of how we wanted to play was to the tee really. "We had a stroke of fortune with their goal being disallowed. On a different day that would have been allowed, I know that and they know that, and suddenly it could have been a change in result. "I am thankful that it went our way. "I didn't see the incident in live play but I don't know, he has made his decision and I am thankful for it."
