County response pleases Derry

Shaun Derry was overjoyed with Notts County's second-half display at Barnsley after they came back from behind to win 3-2.

Goals from Devante Cole and Conor Hourihane put the hosts in control early on before Garry Thompson pulled a goal back with a superb long-range effort. Ryan Williams went close to restoring Barnsley's two-goal advantage before the break with a low shot which saw the ball come back off a post. Petrasso then provided a match-winning contribution, meeting Thompson's cross with a close-range header to equalise and scoring a 71st-minute winner after finding a way through the home defence. Derry said: "It was an absolutely superb second-half display. To a man, they were brilliant. "It was a poor performance from us in the first half but it was the polar opposite in the second half. "There was a lot of soul searching in the dressing room at half-time because it had been a horrible performance. "We could have been five down. We absolutely got away with it, there's no doubt about that. Then there was only one team in the second half. "Everybody let themselves down in the first half and Michael (Petrasso) was one of them. We tweaked it a little in the second half and put Michael out on the left. It was an unbelievable performance from him. I love watching him. "Zeli (Ismail) was also fantastic and only overshadowed by Michael because of his goals. Wingers have got to work hard for me and that's what Michael and Zeli did." Derry also praised veteran midfielder Gary Jones, saying: "Gary is such a pro. What an inspiration he is. He inspires me." Barnsley manager Danny Wilson was critical of his side's defending. He added: "We were poor in every department of defence and that resulted in the goals. "We created chance after chance and took a couple of them. I think they had four chances and took three of them. "They were easy goals that we conceded and that's the frustrating thing. The balls that we suffered from were just balls played straight down the middle. Our defending was poor and that's something we've got to address. "Some of our play, in particular our attacking play, was excellent, but there are aspects of the match that will get forgotten. It's annoying that we haven't come away with anything. "Devante was excellent. He was a real threat, but we can't rely on one person. "We've got to dust ourselves down. It's going to be a big challenge for us against Bristol City at the weekend."
