Rodwell denies Derry approach

Notts County chief executive Jim Rodwell insists the club have not received an approach from Crystal Palace for manager Shaun Derry.

Rodwell has dismissed the speculation as "absolute nonsense" and has made it clear he would not welcome any contact from the Premier League club. Derry, who had two stints with Palace as a player, has been linked with a return to Selhurst Park since the London club appointed Neil Warnock as manager for a second time. Reports suggested Warnock wanted Derry as part of his backroom staff with a view to making the Magpies boss a Palace manager in waiting. But Rodwell has quelled such talk and issued a firm hands-off warning. He told the Nottingham Post: "It's just speculation, which, as far as I am concerned, is absolute nonsense. "I have no idea where it has come from but there has been no communication or an approach from Palace and it would not be welcomed either. "Shaun is our manager, he has a job to do here and that is the end of the matter as far as we are concerned." Derry still has one year remaining on his contract at Notts after succeeding Chris Kiwomya last October. During that time the 36-year-old's stock has risen considerably having engineered the club's escape from relegation last season and he has led the League One side to an impressive start this campaign. Warnock, a former manager of the Magpies, is certainly a big admirer of Derry having signed him twice as a player at both QPR and Palace.
