Dumbuya makes Pompey pledge

Portsmouth trialist Mustapha Dumbuya wants to sign for the League One club despite their increasing financial difficulties.

The former Doncaster defender joined Pompey's pre-season training camp in Spain and has featured in all of their friendly matches. Boss Michael Appleton has made no secret of his desire to sign the full-back and has been boosted by the 24-year-old's promise to sign a deal when the time comes. "I will sign here. I have given the manager my word and he has given me his word," Dumbuya told the Portsmouth News. "The manager attracted me with the way he spoke about the club and I liked his ambitions. Hopefully things will get sorted out and it can move on. "It was always going to be a waiting game, he told me that from the start. Patience pays dividends at the end of the day."
