Abbott: Edwards ready to shine

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott says new signing Mike Edwards is keen to take on the challenge of taking the club to the next level.

Central defender Edwards, 32, turned down the offer of a new deal at Notts County, where he spent the last eight seasons, to sign a two-year contract with Carlisle on Monday. Out-of-contract Michalik has turned down his new offer from the Cumbrians. "I've had an idea for a while now that Lubo was going to turn us down and, with that in mind, I've been talking to Mike about moving up here for most of the summer," Abbott told the club's official website. Abbott added: "I think the biggest competition we had for his signature was from Notts County. They like him, they wanted him to stay and he has come to us from a club where he has had some very good years. "The key for Mike is that he's coming here to take on a new challenge and that has swung it for us. He's a talker and an organiser and those are great attributes to have."
