North End boss lauds Hayhurst

Preston boss Graham Westley was full of praise for debutant Will Hayhurst after making his first-team bow against Charlton.

The teenage midfielder was introduced at half-time in last weekend's 2-2 draw and a lively performance on the wing helped spark a second-half revival rounded off by Graham Alexander's late equaliser in his final career appearance. Hayhurst is the 14th player to have progressed from the Deepdale youth ranks in recent seasons to the first team. "I brought Will into the squad because he has shown a lot of quality to me - he has a good hard working attitude," Westley told the Lancashire Evening Post. "I wanted to see how he did in a first-team environment, and my initial impression is that he gave a good account of himself. "Will made a difference when he came on. I saw enthusiasm and a good sense of responsibility for the football."
