Rare home win delights Knill

Manager Alan Knill was relieved to see Scunthorpe record their first home win in three and a half months against relegation rivals Rochdale.

A superb second-half strike from Garry Thompson gave the Iron a much-needed 1-0 victory that lifted them out of the bottom four at the expense of their opponents. "There is relief all round," said Knill. "When you look at the other results for teams down there around us, this was a great result for us. And I think we deserved it. "There was not much to choose between the two teams in the first half because we cancelled each other out. But I thought we did much better in the second half and it was a great goal by Garry Thompson that won it for us. It came just after Rochdale had come close to scoring. "We got the rub of the green that has been missing at times this season. We have been playing alright but we have been drawing too many games. "To keep a clean sheet was also massive for us. It helps give us confidence and gives us something to build on."
